EUSA Asia Pacific CONFERENCE 2022 SEOUL
6-8 July 2022
Exploring New Solutions to Old Challenges: How to overcome complex disasters in the EU and the world
Following decades of brilliant economic growth and prosperity, the world is now facing a series of threats previously thought to have been vanquished – pandemic, war and the threat of famine. The COVID-19 pandemic has dragged on for over two years and continues to plague us, posing a grave threat to the world economy and security. It has become clear that COVID-19 will go down in history as the worst pandemic in a hundred years.
Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine is casting fundamental doubts on the security of Europe, forcing other regions to review timeworn issues once again to identify potential threats from a geopolitical or geo-economic perspective. The field of Eurasian geopolitics is on the rise again. Another issue is seen in the disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine crisis to supply chains of food and energy, increasing the possibility of famine in vulnerable areas and foregrounding energy issues in nations around the world. The pandemic and war posed serious threats to Europe and without doubt will remain as issues to be resolved.
Europe has become the ground zero for all these traditional threats, intertwined with each other like the two sides of a coin and extending throughout the Asia-Pacific region as well. Therefore, it has become very timely to discuss a variety of issues rising from the changing geography of contemporary Europe and the world, all to be treated in the 2022 EUSA Asia-Pacific Conference held in Seoul in 6–8 July.
